US Leapfrogs Mexico In New FIFA Rankings
The new FIFA world rankings have been released and the big news involves the the CONCACAF giants as the US team rose seven spots to #21 effectively passing #24 Mexico.
Not since August had the US team been above the Mexicans and at that point it was only by one position. Prior to that you have to look all the way back to June of 2007 the last time the US beat out Mexico in the rankings, when they were 10 spots ahead of El Tri.
The US has taken all the available points from their matches in Group A of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying and has been in good form doing so, outscoring their opponents five goals to nil.
Under new boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, the Mexicans have also experienced success, taking three wins away from their three matches, outscoring the opposition seven goals to just two.
The other big movers in this months rankings were Lithuania who rose 17 spots to 37, while Scotland took the biggest hit falling 10 places.
