Celtic hit with injury blow as Scott Brown faces missing start of season
CELTIC have been dealt an early pre-season blow with the news Scott Brown could miss the start of the new campaign because of a sore thumb.
The £4.5million midfielder went under the knife at the end of last season to have the injury repaired and had hoped to be back in time to join the other Celtic players on their first day back at their Lennoxtown HQ on July 4.
Medics have inserted a pin in his thumb and told Brown he won't be ready to train until at least THREE WEEKS after the rest of Gordon Strachan's squad have started back.
That will leave the Scotland man playing catch-up and racing to get back in peak condition as soon as possible.
Brave Brown endured a difficult first 12 months at Parkhead, coping secretly with personal problems while being heavily criticised for his performances on the park, which struggled to match his usual high standards.
As Brown's team-mates celebrated a third successive SPL title he returned to the family home to help nurse his 21-year-old sister who passed away last month after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The player is desperate to get over his anguish and is raring to return to his best as quickly as possible when the curtain comes up on Celtic's title defence.
But he could now be kept waiting for as long as it takes the doctors to give him the green light to commence his pre-season campaign.
Come on scott!!! A sore thumb? Yer having a laugh mate
