Fresh Injury Blows For Rangers
Injury-plagued full-back Stevie Smith and recent signing Kyle Lafferty will spend time on the sidelines as Rangers' pre-season continues to get worse.
Skipper Barry Ferguson will miss at least the first three months of the new season and DaMarcus Beasley has done himself a mischief, with the fresh blows a real concern for the Gers.
22-year-old Smith has only just returned after missing the bulk of last season due to pelvic problems and a scan has revealed new ankle damage sustained during a training session. He is set to sit out a minimum of four weeks.
Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty, too, will miss the second round of Champions League qualifying - probably against FBK Kaunas - after pulling up with back pain.
Talking to the club's official website, boss Walter Smith confirmed: "It's another blow for Stevie Smith who has not had his troubles to seek in recent times but we wish him a speedy recovery.
"The Lafferty one is frustrating because when you sign a new player you want to bed him into the team quickly but he is at least another week away.
"I would have to say that he won't be available to us for the Champions League qualifier on July 30."
