How long till English Football Implodes
The events of the last 24 hours have pushed reality to the limits in terms of the money being thrown at the game down south.
Saudi Sheiks, Russian Oil Billionaires, Yankee Dollars, if it wasn't true you couldn't dream it all up.
Football it seems at present is immune to the problems affecting half the global economy (granted its not affecting the far east or Arab areas) I fear it's not sustainable and there will be the mother of all hangovers if the bubble bursts.
Is it all too good to be true?
Maybe I'm just wishing someone had bought Rangers
We could be seeing the first steps towards football becoming a corporate side show and in effect destroying itself.
We've already got owners who buy players & pick the team, resulting in Managers resigning e.g. Burley & Curbishley. This will become the norm and we'll have the same situation as in cricket where the captain runs the show.
I fear we see ticket prices going through the roof and the working man being priced out of the ground. Once this happens, we have to hope fan power can force changes at board level.
Eventually there will be a world 'silly rich disney' league that will be far removed from football as we know it and after a massive breakaway and many clubs who cant sustain themselves financially will go out of business. Then domestic leagues will prosper once more. They'll be made up of the clubs that manage to survive the financial boom & bust and will operate on far lower budget levels with only local TV money to spend and youth development will be key source of new talent.
In effect after a short number of years English & world football is going to go through the pain that we at Rangers suffered since Advocaat left and we had to get realistic about our finances.
